The Mago Guesthouse in Mago

The unique Mago Guesthouse is set in beautiful surroundings next to the small village of Mago. The guesthouse opened in 2007 and is the only mid-size guesthouse in the region.

The guesthouse is more than a place to stay. All income goes to the Mago Youth Polytechnic School and funds its training programme. The guesthouse also serves as a hotel school: the students of the Catering & Hospitality course gain their practical experience here.

The entrance of the guesthouse

You stay in quiet, green surroundings with spacious gardens and traditional thatched roofs. The guesthouse is 35 km north of Kisumu and 23 km south of the Kakamega rainforest: an ideal base for exploring the region.

With your stay you directly support the students of Mago. You enjoy a warm welcome and at the same time contribute to their future.

Accommodation

The guesthouse has 18 hotel rooms, a restaurant and a conference room.

Rooms

One of the double rooms

Enjoy one of our 18 rooms, all with private bathroom and toilet: 7 double rooms, 7 twin rooms and 4 single rooms.

All rooms are furnished with European facilities combined with African interior design. Every room has a mosquito net and secured windows, so you can sleep without worry. The spacious bathroom offers a lovely hot shower.

Restaurant

The restaurant of the guesthouse

Enjoy the warm atmosphere while you are served by our Catering & Hospitality students. They are trained by our excellent chef Alex, who worked at the Kenyan embassy in Paris for four years.

Our menu consists of local and international dishes. Besides an extensive breakfast we serve a three-course lunch and a four-course dinner.

Conference room

The conference room

The conference room is used by various local groups for meetings, trainings and seminars. It is equipped with a whiteboard, LCD projector, flip chart and overhead projector.

This is another way in which we generate income to keep the school running. A seminar on solar energy, for example, was held here.
